Our Story

Philadelphia Performing Arts: A String Theory Charter School is a K12, tuitionfree, Philadelphia public charter school open to all Philadelphia residents.

Our goal is to make the arts the catalyst for learning as we prepare students to successfully meet future academic and social challenges. Our administrative faculty includes experienced professionals and distinguished artists.

The West Campus of Philadelphia Performing Arts was founded in September 2000 as the only elementary Performing Arts school in the city of Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School opened its East Campus in September 2012. The East Campus opened in response to the large number of students applying to the school. The East building
houses kindergarten through first grade. The building is newly renovated and features its own arts specific classrooms, including a ballet studio and vocal and instrumental music classrooms. The school also has an indoor pool and is next door to the Philadelphia Free Library’s Fumo Family Branch.
