AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS
Our students at Performing Arts are provided with the opportunity to participate in a wide array of clubs and organizations that enhance their school experience such as the following:
The Junior orchestra is an auditioned group of third and fourth grade musicians who are looking to further enhance their musicianship and musical exposure though small ensemble playing experience. This thirty-person ensemble focuses on a wide range of both classic and modern literature. Junior Orchestra has a number of performances throughout the school year and have been featured in seasonal concerts and performances throughout the greater Philadelphia area, including the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Junior Orchestra meets on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30pm
This club meets once a week to practice and extend students’ chess skills and playing strategies. The club is split into two classes, beginner and advanced. Our chess coach, Mr. Lateef Street, determines in which group a student belongs depending on their ability and experience with the game. Both groups meet separately for an hour. The children receive instruction from our chess coach during the first half, and then they practice competing with a partner during the second half. Certain students are also selected to represent PPACS by participating in monthly tournaments sponsored by Philadelphia’s After School Activities Partnership (ASAP).
The Respect Ambassadors Club will meet every week after school (day of the week to be determined), 3:30-4:30pm, in Ms. Berry’s office (West Room 200). During our meetings, we will plan school-wide diversity events, discuss our recycling efforts, and work to develop our school community’s respectful behaviors.
